summer twirling camp 2017

June 23-25: Day Camp

Spend a great weekend twirling in a fun and positive camp experience at CU Boulder!

Your child will learn a variety of skills: combining baton twirling and dance into routines, partner and team exchanges, beginning juggling, 2 and 3 baton skills, field twirling skills (to prepare her to perform with high school and college marching bands), basic gymnastics, and dance technique. She will learn several routines which will be performed for family and friends at the end of the camp. Your camper will make new friends and strengthen current friendships among her teammates. Your child will improve her twirling technique and learn lots of fun new tricks and routines. All levels from beginning to advanced will be accommodated.

Has your child never picked up a baton before? No problem! No prior experience is needed to attend. We'll have classes just for those who are brand-new to baton twirling.

Family and friends will get to see what our campers have learned on Sunday afternoon with a short performance before camp is wrapped up. You'll love seeing your child shine with her enthusiasm for baton twirling!

My favorite part is meeting other twirlers, hanging out with them, and making new friends.
— Olivia, age 11

Emma benefited from meeting a large group of girls who had a range of abilities. She was able to get help from other twirlers to do tricks that have been hard for her and also been able to show off what she does well. The energy of a larger group has increased her drive to continue in twirling.

instructors

We have a fantastic group of instructors for this camp! These teachers will provide your child with an inspiring and exciting twirling experience.

Monica Lee

Monica Lee is a World Champion baton twirler and has a plethora of State, Regional, National, and World titles to her name. She is most known for twirling with her brother, Jason Lee, in the Pairs event. Together, they are the most decorated pair the US has ever had, having won 3 Bronze Medals and 3 Silver Medals at the World Championships in their career.

Ashley Dolan

Ashley Dolan is a former feature twirler at the University of Texas at Austin. She has been twirling for as long as she can remember, and it is such an important part of her life! Twirling allows Ashley to express my deepest thoughts and feelings for enthusiastic audiences and with phenomenal athletes and coaches. The sport of baton twirling has allowed me to represent her university and her country at both national and international competitions, and twirling has truly changed her life.

Brianne Turnbull

Brianne Turnbull will be finishing up her Sophomore year this May at The University of Arizona while studying Speech Pathology. She is a member of their twirling team. Brianne has loved competing with her sister for the past 11 years and enjoys sharing her love and passion for the sport of baton twirling to others who have fallen in love with baton as well!

Kaitlyn Turnbull

Kaitlyn Turnbull is a Freshman at CU Boulder as well as the Feature Twirler. Her major is Psychology. Kaitlyn have been on 3 International Cup teams. She competes with individual routines such as solo, strut, and dance twirl, as well as pairs with her sister Brianne.

Attending a camp or clinic has benefitted Caileigh because it has exposed her to all levels of twirling which she has found exciting. She has learned immensely from the hands on aspect of these environments. Her favorite part would have to be hanging out with her fellow twirling friends!

FAQs

Are there options available for those with food allergies?

Yes, there is an allergy free zone buffet in the dining hall for those with a lot of allergies, and each item has a label to denote if it has one of the top 9 allergy-driven foods in it. If you have a less common allergy or a lot of allergies or extremely serious ones, please be sure to let us know in advance.

Why is there not an overnight camp option this year?

Unfortunately, CU Boulder raised their minimum camp numbers for overnight groups by more than double from last year. We'll be working on bringing that option back in the future, but for now there is not an option for staying on campus.

I would highly recommend coordinating with some twirling friends and booking a hotel in the area to enjoy the experience of an overnight camp! Be sure to book early - that's a busy week in Boulder and hotels are already filling up.
